Frequently asked questions

What does Verify Veg do?

Verify Veg scans a barcode or photo of an ingredient list and checks the listed ingredients against your selected diet. It shows what was flagged and explains uncertain results.

Which diets and food preferences are supported?

Verify Veg supports Vegan, Halal, Kosher, Vegetarian, No beef, No pork, Gluten-free, Lactose-free, Nut-free, and Jain modes. You can also add up to 200 custom forbidden ingredients.

How do barcode and photo scans work?

A barcode scan looks up the product in the Open Food Facts database. If the item is found, Verify Veg uses that ingredient list. If it is missing, or you want to check the package yourself, photograph the ingredient list. An AI scan reads the label directly.

Is Verify Veg free?

Yes. Verify Veg is free to download on iPhone. Barcode scans and offline checks have no limit. Only AI scans that read an ingredient label count toward 10 free scans. Verify Veg Pro adds unlimited AI scans and up to 200 custom ingredients, with a free trial available.

How accurate are the results?

Results depend on the ingredient information available and the readability of photographed labels. Verify Veg identifies uncertain ingredients or incomplete information rather than treating them as confirmed.

Does Verify Veg certify products as vegan, Halal, Kosher, gluten-free, or allergen-free?

No. Verify Veg provides ingredient-based compatibility checks only. It does not certify products or replace labels and decisions from manufacturers, regulators, religious authorities, or certification organizations.

Can Verify Veg guarantee that a product is free from cross-contamination?

No. The app cannot detect shared equipment, manufacturing processes, undeclared ingredients, or cross-contamination. Always check the package and contact the manufacturer when those risks matter.

Can I use the Gluten-free or Nut-free modes for a medical allergy or condition?

These modes screen the listed ingredients, but they are not a medical safety tool. They cannot detect trace exposure or cross-contamination and should not replace professional advice or the manufacturer’s allergen information.

Can I use Verify Veg while traveling or shopping for imported food?

Yes. Download the language you need first, then the app can work completely offline, including on planes, in remote shops, and in places with little signal. Barcode and offline checks stay unlimited. Product formulations and labeling rules vary, so review the displayed source information and uncertainty.
